The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced that the nationwide strike embarked on by its members has been suspended with effect from Monday, June 22, 2020.
The nationwide strike began on June 15 after the 14-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government expired. The association decided to go on strike after meetings between the doctors and the Federal Government yielded no result.
The association has now announced that the nationwide strike has been suspended less than one week after its commencement.
The announcement was made by NARD in a communique read to journalists by its President, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba today in Abuja after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting attended by more than 300 members.
NARD said the decision was taken in order to give the government time to fulfill outstanding demands after an appeal made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Doctor Kayode Fayemi, Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders.
