United States has disclosed that the ventilators pledged by President Donald Trump will get to Nigeria in two weeks.
The country however added that the estimated delivery date would depend on production and shipping times.
The United States President promised on April 28 to send ventilators to Nigeria to help in the fight against COVID-19 cases in the country.
Trump made the promise during a telephone conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari. During the conversation, they discussed efforts made by both nations to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
While providing an update on Trump’s pledge, the United States embassy stated: “On April 28, President Donald J. Trump spoke with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria to discuss efforts by both nations to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
“President Trump affirmed the United States’ strong support for the people of Nigeria and offered additional support for the nation’s response efforts, including by producing and donating ventilators to the people of Nigeria. The United States anticipates that Nigeria will receive the ventilators by mid-June, depending on production and shipping times.”
Meanwhile, the United States Mission did not disclose whether the ventilators would be given to Nigeria free. Also, it was silent on the amount that would be paid by the Federal Government if the delivery is not free.
