The City of Hamilton has revealed it was reacting to an “ongoing” cybersecurity incident, the scope of which is not clear at present.
In a news bulletin posted on the city’s website recently, officials said the cybersecurity incident is affecting some municipal systems.
The City said: “At this time, experts are actively responding to the incident to determine the cause and potential impacts.”
Though it is not clear what sensitive or private information may have been caught up in the incident, the city said protecting that data is its “priority.”
While talking about the services impacted, the city said Hamilton Street Railway (HRS) is affected, but buses are operating on schedule. Meanwhile, operators are currently driving the buses without their computerized schedules and on-board bus stop announcements are not working. Also, the transit system’s app, email, and phone lines are down.
The city said it is liaising with cybersecurity experts to tackle the incident, though no timeline for its resolution was given.
Officials added that they are seriously responding to the incident and apologized for any inconvenience caused to the good people of Hamilton.
