In a swift response to accusations of Indian interference in Canadian elections, the spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, has vehemently denied such activity. He asserted that the Canadian government is interfering in India’s internal affairs.
Jaiswal emphasized India’s respect for the democratic processes of other countries and its policy of non-interference.
During a recent press conference, Jaiswal stated that India has consistently hinted Canada about these concerns and urged the Canadian government to take effective measures to tackle them. He noted that the Indian government has no policy of interfering in other countries’ democratic processes, negating allegations of interference in Canada’s elections.
The accusations came in the wake of a report that labeled India as a ‘foreign threat’ to Canada. Also, the Prime Minister of Canada accused India of its involvement in the assassination of a Khalistani terrorist, which further increased tensions between both countries. In his response, Jaiswal emphasized Canada’s backing of Khalistanis, an act India see as a clear case of interference in its internal matters.
