Meta has revealed it is making plans to end news access for Canadians on its Instagram and Facebook platforms.
According to the company, news for all Canadian users will be removed over the course of the next few weeks.
Previously, Meta was running a test that limited news for around five percent of its users, and now reveals it is moving out of the testing phase.

By implication, links to news articles and other content posted by Canadian publishers and broadcasters will no longer be viewable by users of Instagram and Facebook in Canada.
Meta reveals such content is defined based on how it’s defined in the Canadian government’s Online News Act, which was passed into law earlier this summer.
The company says the effort to block news is a response to the bill, which mandates tech giants to sign agreements that compensate Canadian news outlets for content shared or otherwise adapt them for use in a different purpose on their platforms.
