A famous South African soapie actor suspected of killing his 29-year-old partner has been granted a one-day extension to appear in court because of his slow recovery in hospital after he attempted to take his own life.

The actor, unnamed, will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court to face charges relating to the murder of his partner. However, after his arrest, he was rushed to hospital after he attempted suicide.

Reports have it that the actor’s partner was found dead in their home recently, with initial investigations indicating that she was strangled. The actor was later arrested and charged with murder.

The incident shook South Africa’s entertainment industry, with a lot of the actor’s colleagues expressing their shock and disbelief at the allegations. Also, the case has triggered a national conversation about gender-based violence and the need for greater action to safeguard women and girls.

South Africa has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence in the world, with recent statistics showing that a woman is killed in the country every three hours. Despite efforts by the government and civil society to tackle the issue, progress has been stalled, and many women keep living in fear of violence and abuse.

The soapie actor’s case has once again given this issue public consciousness and has highlighted the need to act in a bid to prevent gender-based violence and ensure that women and girls are safeguarded and supported.

The actor is expected to show up in court after his recovery from his suicide attempt, and the case will be closely monitored by South Africans across the country.
