Alberta’s Health Minister, Jason copping, has announced that Alberta will provide $158 million in the upcoming budget to tackle the province’s healthcare worker shortage.
This development came under the government’s new Health Workforce Strategy.
While making the announcement, Copping said: “We still have significant health staffing issues now and we do have our projections — we’re still going to have issues in the future. So we need to address that.”
Reports reveal that the majority of the funding will be deployed to programs that seek to recruit and retain rural physicians. As mentioned in an agreement with the Alberta Medical Association, around $29 million will be used in serving rural and remote communities.

Copping added: “Things aren’t going to change overnight, but we have laid the foundation for a strong and sustainable health system that provides every Albertan with access to a health home.”
