Ottawa’s light rail transit line has fully reopened after a mechanical failure forced a section to close recently.
In a recent memo to the council, Renée Amilcar, transit General Manager said the cables that power the trains, encountered a mechanical failure near Lees station around 11:45 pm on Saturday.
Amilcar said: “One train was nearby and safely stopped at Lees Station. Approximately 20 passengers were transferred to a bus to continue their travels.”

In a follow-up note, Amilcar said the repairs were nearly done and the line would fully reopen soon. Rideau Transit Maintenance team members are working to determine what caused the failure.
He said: “The preliminary review indicates that there was an issue with a previous repair that was identified during a regular inspection of the OCS.
“We are expecting further details from RTM later this week.”
