For the first time in three years since 2018, the Oscars awards show will be anchored by a host that has not been named. The telecast will be aired on March 27, 2022, on ABC.
The announcement was recently made by Craig Erwich, President of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, during the winter Television Critics Association virtual press tour. While making the announcement, he gave no details but said: “It might be me.”
In recent years, ratings for the telecast have dropped. In the same vein, viewership of other awards shows has also declined.
The last host of the award was Jimmy Kimmel before 2019 was plagued by controversy after homophobic jokes resurfaced and tweets made Kevin Hart stand down.
The 2019 edition witnessed a rise in viewers from 26.6 million to 29.5 million but following years have witnessed a consistent drop with 2021’s ceremony recording an all-time low of 10.4 million.
After 2020’s ceremony was held at Union Station, this year’s ceremony will hold at the Dolby Theatre. Ride Along and The Girls Trip producer, Will Packer, has been named executive producer for the night.
Nominations for the Oscars will be announced on February 8.
