5 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. 6 And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets. 7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.” 8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please divine by the familiar spirit, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” (1Samuel 28:5-8)
Saul was desperate. He had some challenges but because he had become desperate, he could no longer think clearly. He was ready to do anything and he sought wrong means.
Disguising himself, he lowered his position as a king and bowed before a witch. He started well in life, was chosen as king and anointed by Samuel but ended with a witch.
And in my novel – In Love For Us, because Rhoda was desperate and wanted to keep the father of her unborn baby by all means, she went to Tolu’s office to fight. Giving Tolu an icy stare, she said, “Get out of my man’s life! And stay out! … Husband snatcher! … By the time I finish with you, you won’t know what hit you!”
What Rhoda did was very wrong as Ben pointed out to her later. “There is a better way to handle the matter. If a man doesn’t love you, marriage won’t make him change his mind. In fact, marriage will worsen the case because he will feel tied down. He might become aggressive and resentful, and engage in extramarital affairs.”
If you are desperate about something, it means you want that thing at all cost and you are willing to do anything to get it. Many lives have been wounded and even destroyed because they were caught in the web of desperation.
Desperation has a spirit behind it for behind every evil is the devil. It is a yoke that drives a person out of his or her mind to do silly things. When a person is desperate, the person cannot think properly. The person behaves like a dog that will not listen to the whistle of its owner in the midst of danger. The person makes a mistake without realizing it.
Is there anything right now causing you to be desperate? This is a new year. Relax, God is in control.
When Saul ascended the throne as king, he commanded all the witches in the land of Israel to be put to death. He stood for God and justice but when things went wrong with him and he became desperate, he went looking for a witch for direction. Beloved, when desperation steps into your life, it is an evidence that some things are no longer in place in your life.
There are ladies who because they are desperate to have money go about sleeping with men. They cheapen themselves. Others sleep with their lecturers in school just to get good grades. Some people get desperate about promotion and when this happens, they begin to backbite their fellow workers just to run them down to gain favor.
There are men who kill because of the drive to make quick money. They don’t mind killing even their spouses to get what they want. There are some church leaders who are desperate for church growth and do charms and rituals. They bury things in their churches. The judgment of God will soon fall.
Some men are desperate for material possessions like cars, houses and other properties and they don’t mind getting them with blood money. Some women also because of delay in pregnancy will not mind sleeping with mad men and unkempt native doctors to get a baby. Such people don’t often end well.
It is also a pity that most sisters in a bid to want to keep a relationship, lower their standard and some even go into immorality to get a husband. Friends, it doesn’t matter how you are now, be at peace in your mind and allow God to turn your captivity. He can still give you your heart’s desire.
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)
When you are desperate, you become obsessed, confused and frustrated. The person also becomes afraid. But fear is not from God.
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2Timothy 1:7)
God is saying “Fear not because it is My pleasure to give you the kingdom”. He knows your name and as such knows your needs. Cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you. Don’t be desperate. It is very dangerous. There is no situation that God cannot handle. The devil will bring trials and temptations but do not fear or get desperate. Relax, God is in control and He is saying to you right now, let not your heart be troubled.
Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God believe in Jesus. (John 14:1)
