The Federal Government has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed by Friday at midnight and will be reopened in January 2021.
Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola made the announcement recently. While making the announcement, the Minister explained that the maintenance of Nigeria’s busiest bridge was aimed at replacement of damaged components for an improved motoring experience.
The maintenance will be carried out on a length of 3.5 kilometres out of the 11.8 kilometres of the bridge.
Fashola acknowledged the fact that the closure will cause hardship in the short term but charged motorists to be patient as it is better to endure six months of work and closure than to allow the bridge to crash and that would take many years to fix.
