The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria has begun a nationwide indefinite strike as the 14-day ultimatum given has expired.
The commencement of strike was announced by the President of National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria, Dr Aliyu Sokomba while addressing a press conference in Abuja. Sokomba said the union has resolved to exempt its members that working in different coronavirus (COVID-19) isolation and treatment centers across Nigeria from the strike.
According to Sokomba, the union decided to embark on the strike due to failed series of deadlock meetings between the doctors and the Federal Government in the past two weeks.
Their demands include cancellation of unlawful deductions of Salaries by some state government, refunding illegally deducted salaries, rectification of non-payment of salaries of some members, payment of COVID19 inducement allowances, adequate provision of Personal Protective Equipment, ending harassment and assault of Doctors in the line of duty and provision of life insurance for doctors and other health workers in the frontline by the government.
