Six cases of coronavirus have been discovered at three English Premier League clubs after staff and club players were tested ahead of the schduled return to training.
The coronavirus cases were announced by the league management via an official statement released today. The statement reads: “The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19.
“Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs.”
Details of the affected individuals or clubs were not released by the management of the league.
According to the statement, “Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.”
Premier League clubs started training in small groups today Tuesday following Monday’s signing off of protocols on safety measures.
The 6 positive cases accounts for just 0.8 percent of the tested players and it shares consistency with similar testing carried out by other major leagues that want the season completed.
Premier League clubs aims to return to action by the middle of June amid welfare concerns from some players.
The captian of Watford, Troy Deeney has disclosed he will not go back to training this week over fears that the virus could be passed by him to his five-month-old son who has respiratory issue.
