As part of measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, the Government of Bauchi State has imposed a lockdown for 14 days which will begin on Thursday April 2nd,2020. The time for the shutdown has been slated for 6pm
This was confirmed via statement released by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Sabi’u Baba stating that the lockdown does not affect those on essential services.
His statement read:
“In an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, the Bauchi State Government has imposed a lockdown throughout the state for a period of 14 days with effect from Thursday, 2nd April, 2020 from 6.00pm. Consequently, all borders to Bauchi State will equally be closed.
“His Excellency, Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, appreciates the sacrifice of the public in these agonising times.
“He has subsequently directed that in order for the public to secure food items, movement is allowed between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The ban does not, however, affect essential services.”
The state governor, Bala Mohammed, was the first governor in Nigeria to test positive for the virus.
