Super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Peseiro, has assured that his team will start scoring goals after their qualification to the round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The Eagles will battle it out with Group C runners-up, Cameroon, and Peseiro is optimistic his side would score against them.
Nigeria qualified for the last 16 of the tournament after finishing second in the Group after their 1-0 victory over Guinea Bissau in their last group game on Monday.
Opa Sangante’s 37th-minute own goal at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium was the difference as Super Eagles recorded their second win at the AFCON.
With only three goals scored by the Eagles from three games in the group stage, despite boasting one of the most potent attacks at this tournament, there has been cause for concern among Nigerians.
While speaking ahead of their next game, Peseiro said his team would start scoring.
He said: “For the next match, we’re going to score.
“It is important for us to score goals, but it’s a difficult tournament. We deserve to reach the first position because against Equatorial Guinea, we created many chances, but we didn’t score. Equatorial Guinea did not beat us, they drew us.
“I’m happy about that, and I’ll wait for the next match. It’s not easy to win one match in this competition. It’s not easy.”
“First objective attained! With two wins and one draw and with no goals conceded in the last two matches, we are in the last 16 of the AFCON.
“Next Saturday, we will be there with the same focus, determination and commitment so that we can move to the quarter-finals.”
