Nigerian dies in police custody in South Africa

According to reports, a Nigerian, Abiodun Victor Olawunmi, has died in the hands of officers of the South African Police Service in Johannesburg.

The details of the incident are still unclear at the time of reporting this news. However, a Sandton, Gauteng-based Nigerian man from Oyo State, Edward Sunday, wrote: “Nigerian suffocated by South African Police”

Reports have it that police arrested the deceased on Saturday, July 15, 2023 while raiding Johannesburg Central and its environment by Minister of Police Bheki Cele.

When Abiodun’s brother received news about his arrest, they started making preparations to go and see him at the police station and they got a call from an officer informing him of Abiodun’s death.

When the brothers got to the Johannesburg Central Police Station, they saw his corpse in the parking lot.
