An Abuja High court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) and its Director General to grant immediate access to lawyers and family members of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Recall that Emefiele was detained by the DSS over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.
The order was issued by Justice Hamza Muazu after a suit was filed by Emefiele’s legal team, led by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN.

While talking to the court, Daudu said he had written letters to the DSS to request access to his client to enable him to take necessary instructions from him. He said one of such letters was received by the security agency on June 14.
He however lamented that his requests were ignored by DSS and he was denied an audience with Emefiele who is in their custody.
Meanwhile, Mr I. Awo, the counsel for DSS, denied the claim that the agency had refused to grant Emefiele access to his lawyers and family members. He made it known to the court that the agency would comply with its order. The court adjourned further hearing on the suit to June 19.
