The Lagos State Government has shut down Chimezie Store, a famous grocery store located at No. 19 Ogundana Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, for allegedly selling expired products to Lagosians. The store was sealed while officials of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) were carrying out a sting operation as part of the government’s zero tolerance on unwholesome items in the state.
This is not the first time the Agency would take action against stores selling expired products. Last month, the agency sealed two major supermarkets found selling expired products at GRA, Ikeja.
During the recent sting operation, LASCOPA officials invaded the grocery store and found expired products. After the discovery, the officials instantly sealed the store premises to stop further sales of the products to the public.

In a brief statement released by LASCOPA, General Manager, Afolabi Solebo, confirmed the discovery and confiscation of the expired products during an inspection exercise carried out by the Monitoring and Enforcement team of the agency.
Solebo warned grocery stores and supermarkets across Lagos against selling unwholesome products. Efforts are being intensified by the government to combat the sale of expired and unwholesome products in Lagos State, as these products pose health dangers to consumers and undermine the efforts of government to protect public health.
Customer are advised to be vigilant when buying food and other products, and check expiry dates before making a purchase. Consumers are also advised to report any incidents of stores selling expired or unwholesome products to LASCOPA or other relevant authorities.
