Canadian winter driving tips to help you stay safe

(NC) Here are a few tips to keep you safe on the roads this winter:

Clean snow off your car. Clean the snow and ice off your entire windshield, all windows, lights and the roof of the car. This isn’t just to keep yourself safe – it also keeps other drivers on the road safe from blowing snow that can decrease visibility.

Slow down on the road. If there is snow and ice, reduce your speed. Keep extra distance from the cars in front of you as it may take longer to stop. If there are snowplows or salting vehicles on the road, keep a safe distance. Give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination in the wintertime. If the conditions are particularly nasty, consider working from home if possible.

Create an emergency kit. Make sure you’re prepared with a fully stocked emergency kit that includes blankets, non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, water, jumper cables, and an ice scraper. Belairdirect offers roadside assistance that could come in handy if you’re stranded, especially in the winter months.

Driving in the wintertime can be challenging. Follow the advice above and drive with a bit of extra care to lower your risk of an accident.
