Popular actress, Taraneh Alidoosti, has been arrested by Iranian authorities over her criticism of the death penalty in the country.
The actress, who starred in the Oscar-winning film “The Salesman,” expressed solidarity with an executed protester in a recent post.
According to pro-government media, she was accused of “spreading false information.”

As reported by Iran’s state IRNA news agency, Alidoosti was detained a week after she expressed solidarity with a man who was executed for alleged involvement in a protest.
She posted on Instagram: ”His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organization who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action is a disgrace to humanity.”
Alidoosti’s account has been suspended.
According to ISNA, she was arrested because she did not provide “any documents in line with her claims.”
Tasnim, a pro-government news agency, reported that she was detained for “spreading false information and supporting counter-revolutionary circles.”
In 2020, she was given a five-month prison sentence in 2020 after criticizing the police officer who assaulted a woman who had removed her headscarf.
