Kirstie Alley, ‘Cheers’ actress, dies

Kirstie Alley, Emmy-award-winning actress, has died. She died at the age of 71.

According to a statement posted on her Twitter account, she died of cancer that was very recently detected.

The statement read: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”

Alley starred as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom Cheers between 1982 and 1993, winning an Emmy for the role.
