A 24-year-old final year student of Forestry at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), Abia State, Oluomachi Nwoye, has given birth to a set of quintuplets (five babies) at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Oluomachi’s mother, Mrs Priscilla Nwojo, who confirmed the development to newsmen, said the quintuplets comprise of two boys and three girls.

As of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the mother of the quintuplets and the three girls were being catered for while the two boys were said to be receiving special attention at the ‘In-born unit’ of the Nkasiobi Ward of the FMC Umuahia hospital.

Meanwhile, Priscilla Nwojo while noting that she was very happy over the gift of quintuplets to her daughter, said such an uncommon blessing usually comes with its peculiar challenges.

The 56-year-old grandmother appealed to the government and public-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the family, saying that “it’s not easy to take care of one (baby), how much more five persons under the present situation of Nigeria”.

Nwojo, who hails from Amamba in Abiriba kingdom of Ohafia Local Government Area, said she was a petty trader while her husband “is a tailor.”

She further revealed that her daughter Oluomachi is also a twin.

She said “I thank God for this special gift. I’m a trader. I deal with pap and my husband is a tailor. We will be happy if Government can come to our help because it’s not easy to take care of one (baby), not to talk of five. But we thank God in everything”.

There was no information about the father of the quintuplets as of the time of filing this report.

It is important to note that Abia is one of the Eastern States in Nigeria.
