NNCN CONDOLES WITH ỌWỌ OVER KILLINGS

Black Sunday in Owo, Ondo State

We strongly condemn the massacre of innocent worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State which happened on Sunday, 4th June 2022.

The barbaric and heinous rampage is another testament to how volatile the security architecture in the nation has become. It’s indeed befuddling that unscrupulous elements could successfully carry out such a lugubrious act in broad daylight without being nabbed at the scene.

The Owo people are peace-loving and always conduct themselves in good manners and so, for any group or elements to have targeted them only shows that there is more than meets the eyes.

We are saddened over the egregious act that has left families and the state bereaved. We condole with the families of the victims, the Church, and indeed the state government over this irreparable damage.

We call on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to go beyond its ritual of issuing condolence messages and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and made to feast on the full wrath of the law.
