The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has stated reasons why the former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, was arrested by the Commission some hours after he handed over power to his successor, Charles Soludo.

Obiano, who handed over to Soludo recently was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos while traveling to the United States.
The EFCC did not give reasons for his arrest at first with the Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, promising to give more details on the matter later.
However, while speaking with BBC Pidgin a few hours ago, Uwajaren said Obiano’s arrest occurred several months after he was placed on the watch list of the agency before the handing over but had immunity as a sitting governor.
He said: “Obiano has been on our watchlist for some time now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.
“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him.”
