The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, has announced the call for applications into the Lagos State Employability Support Project.
The LSESP provides short vocational training programmes, implemented by the LSETF, to provide youths in the state with industry relevant skills that can help them gain possible employment and advance in life.
“Applications are open to residents of Lagos State between the ages of 18 and 35 years to register for the vocation training and skills acquisition courses, which will be provided by selected vocational training centres in the state and implemented by Arc Skills, a globally recognised skills training provider,” a statement from the LSESP read in part.
The Executive Secretary, LSETF, Akintunde Oyebode, emphasised the importance of the project in building a skilled and experienced workforce for organisations and businesses in the state and improving the lives of the citizens.
“With focused training of applicants and the revamp of vocational studies in Lagos State, we are confident that this initiative will go a long way to address unemployment among youths in Lagos State. These trainings will also address capacity building and job demands in both the private and public sectors,” he said.
According to him, while trainings are completely free, applicants are required to show proof of their residence in Lagos State by providing their Lagos State Residents Registration Agency number.
“Applicants are also expected to have successfully completed junior secondary school. Interested participants can visit the project website to register or pick up an application form from the nearest LSETF liaison office in any of the local government secretariats,” Oyebode stated
Commenting on the initiative, the Team Leader, Inclusive Growth Unit, UNDP, Robert Asogwa, said, “This is a major step for development in Lagos and Africa by extension. It is the most reliable means of eradicating unemployment in Lagos State and the United Nations Development Project is proud to be a partner of the great initiative.”
