Nigerian Embassy in Berlin, Germany has suspended one of its staff over allegations of sexual abuse and other grave offences.
In a statement released, the embassy said the staff works in its security department and his identity could not be revealed for legal reasons.
He was suspended after a video that suggested he was asking for sex nefore he could perform his duty was circulated on social media.
The footage involved a man identified as Mr Martin by the person who recorded the encounter and it was recorded inside what looked like a hotel room.
Reports have it that Mr Martin was seen pants down with a topless woman believed to have been forced to sleep with him to have her passport renewed in the video.
“Your cup is full, Martin. You’re raping our girls,” the man who recorded the video alleged.
In his defense, Martin appeared said the sexual activity was a consensual one with no strings attached.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Yusuf Tuggar, said that the embassy does not tolerate abuse of office, especially one involving sexual misconduct.
He said, “Our full resources are being deployed to investigate a very serious incident and any other abuses that this inquiry may reveal.
“The investigation is taking place with all the urgency and diligence that this very serious situation demands.”
While talking further, Tuggar said anyone found guilty at the end of the investigation will face the full weight of the law.
Also, he apologised to the innocent victims of the abuse.
