Reverend Raphael Warnock has triumphed over Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler to emerge the next Democratic US Senator from Georgia.
The Senior Pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, a post Martin Luther King Jr once held, was elected to become the first black Senator from Georgia. Also, he is the first Georgia Democrat to be elected to the senate in 20 years.
His election has been viewed as a rejection of the incumbent Republican, Senator Kelly Loeffler and her loyalty to President Donald Trump.
The runoff election was conducted after no Georgia senate candidate amassed 50% of the vote in November. As things stand, the control of the US Senate now hinges on Republican’s David Perdue, who is fighting to keep his seat against Democrat Jon Ossoff.
